Preparation

Plan ahead - which day do you want to look most gorgeous?  Book your spray tan for the day or two before this. If you haven't exfoliated your body for a while, do it every couple of days in the lead up to your spray tan.

The day before - shave or wax and exfoliate, pay particular attention to knees, elbows, heels and ankles as dry, rough areas tend to absorb more tanner.  Remember the top layer of skin is the one changing colour so it should be as young as possible.

On the day - wear dark coloured, loose fitting clothes, including footwear.  Ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup, deodorants, perfumes, moisturisers, etc. as these can act as a barrier and interfere with tan colour or even prevent it from tanning the skin.  Jewellery should be removed.  Customers can choose what they wear for the tan i.e. bikini or thong preferably dark in colour and not the most expensive.  Hair should be worn up off of the ears and neck.

Blotches and streaks are often the result of skin that hasn't been properly prepared beforehand.

Aftercare

Your tan will not fully develop for 24 hours.  It is recommended that you wait at least this long before getting a second tan.  You may get darker than you think.

In order for the DHA to fully work its magic you should refrain from showering or sweating within four to six hours of your tan.  The longer you leave it on the better.  It's normal for some colour to come off when you first shower.  Keep your water temperature at cool to warm and don't scrub your skin.  Gently wash your body and when drying, pat your skin rather than rub it.

To ensure a healthy looking tan you need to keep the dyed skin on your body for as long as possible.  It is important to moisturise daily if you want your tan to last.  Your external layer of skin is the one earning the colour, and it is also the one which will dry up and fall off first, so be good to it, the more you moisturise, the longer the lifespan of your tan.

Most sunless tanning products don't contain a sunscreen and, therefore, don't protect your skin from sun damage.  Be sure to apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 before going outside.
