Sunless tanning is becoming increasingly popular as sun worshipers face both a time crunch and a fear of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.  Self tanning products give you colour without any risk of UV exposure, and can also be applied at any time convenient to you.  This means that you can "get a tan" on your lunch break or before bed without fear of developing skin cancer.

The active ingredient in most spray tanning products is a compound known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA).  The DHA and amino acids in the top layers of skin react in a way that produces a deep tan colour with no sun exposure.  The DHA mimics the function of the sun in tanning.  The colouring doesn't wash off, but it gradually fades as the dead skin cells are shed.

Considered by dermatologists to be the safest and most effective sunless tanning tool, spray tanning will give you a uniformly brown tan, without the streaks, blotches, or orange complexions associated with many sunless tanning products, and the best part, no UV rays!

DHA will not react to anything but skin, so hair and eyebrows will not tan.  Tanning products will wash out of most materials.
